3D Modeling with Blender!

BY Michael Poliskey

I’ve been aware of Blender for years, but always found it intimidating. Blender is a free (open source) 3D modelling program used by millions of artists, for a variety of applications, including full length animated films (Flow). I’ve made 3D iphones or iMacs in After Effects, and a few things is Cinema 4D, but always avoided Blender. Not any more!

I made it through the famous donut course by Blender Guru, so after that I thought, “What next?”, so that next was to start modelling my basement. Why? I’ve been wanting to paint my basement for years, but to convince my wife of what colors we should use, I thought I should model the whole basement and use some color combos I liked. I did that,m then thought I should start modelling things in my basement, and one of those things, was my amp. It sits right next to me, so I thought…easy!

Over the course of a few weeks…not easy, my amp was ready. I’m actually feeling relatively competant at Blender, but then I look on Reddit at other Blender work, and see that I’m still a ‘newb’. Lots to learn, but this is fun! More modelling to come!
