I went to AEC Next and SPAR 3D
I went to AEC Next and SPAR 3D back in June of this year, but try not to write anything or post any videos until we have one finished video to show, so that’s why it’s November and I’m finally writing about this show that happened back in June.
Super cool show revolving around the AEC industry which stands for architectural, engineering and construction. I didn’t know that until I did some research for the show because I had no idea what it meant. I had a bit of background about SPAR because I had built a few of their websites and made some videos for them years ago, but it was very cool to be on the show floor and see some of the technology that makes the industry move. There were scanners of all sorts that can basically see through walls and then give you an exact picture of those walls and everything that is contained within those walls. Super powerful.
Drones were seemingly everywhere. They can fly over these construction sites and can give construction teams a birds eye views of the land before, during, and after the construction takes place. Not only do the drones give you the opportunity to view the overhead video of a site, but you can also attach several different types of scanners to the bottom of these drones to be able to scan buildings and sites.
When you don’t have drones you can have people walking around with hand scanners and map an entire area by just walking around with these scanners. You can even see some, maybe most, of the scanning results in real time. Completely color coded and telling to the people that are operating these devices.
The show was in Anaheim, which was cool, because I had never flown into or out of LAX before. I have worked with the onsite photographer so it was cool to have someone you’ve worked with and have since become friends with. The flight back home was a red eye and I’m too damn tall apparently to sit comfortably in an airplane nowadays so the flight home was shit. It was good to get back home to Maine but I was super psyched to get this video out because I thought it was really good. I had good interviewees and my interviewer was top notch and asked all of the right questions. It turned out really well I thought.
