Warhood Odyssey Kickstarter

This was a cool video to work on because I’ve known Dylan Andrews for years so helping out with his most recent Kickstarter campaign for his Warhood Odyssey comic book series was something I was happy to be part of.

The goal was for Dylan was to get $3,000 to have his latest comic book become a reality through the crowdfunding website, Kickstarter. If he reaches his goal, the comic book gets printed and the people who have donated money get the latest Warhood Odyssey, if not, people keep their money and the book doesn’t get printed this time. I had faith Dylan’s talent and hard work was enough to meet the Kickstarter goal, but that doesn’t mean the video didn’t need to be good.

The Shoot

Dylan’s studio is only 2 miles from my house so a plus right away. I was excited to see his studio because he shares it with a few other comic book artists, so there were plenty of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures tastily displayed throughout as well as a host of other things that made me feel at home. Actual Nightbreed vinyl? My type of studio.

We set up in his part of the studio and took a bunch of takes until I realized the lighting wasn’t working. Dylan is great on camera so and no problems with his script. Once we worked out the lighting we kept shooting our interview portion of the video. After the interview I shot some illustrations on the walls that I couldn’t use because it was ‘top secret’. One of the guys is working on a soon to be released project and was deemed too sensitive to show. Understandable and kind of cool.

The Video

A quick turnaround for the final video because the Kickstarter was set to start on January 2nd. I did some motion graphic type of stuff to highlight certain characters…I wasn’t sure exactly what to do and how to do it, but Dylan sent some videos his friends had created for their Kickstarter campaigns so I had a few ideas after watching them. I do like my slider and slow motion so I did some of those shots that I thought would show some of his work in a way that I’m fond of

The good news is that Dylan went way over his goal and raised around $4500 in the end and had a bunch of extras thrown in and even some illustrations from some of his his talented illustrator friends. Some amazing work came out of the campaign. I was just happy I could be a part of it.

The Promo

After the Kickstarter was over I had some nice shots leftover of Dylan on the train tracks behind the studio. Some shots I was able to get with my newly purchased Glidecam that I use whenever I get the chance! They didn’t seem to fit in the original video so I put this quick promo together for him because I thought the shots were nice.
