Global Aquaculture
I recently finished off 9 videos for The Global Aquaculture Alliance in Portsmouth, NH for their annual GOAL Conference. GOAL 2017 was held in Dublin, Ireland this year at Croke Park for their 20th event. GOAL, by their own words is “a pre-competitive event, an opportunity to put day-to-day business aside, bringing together the various segments of industry to discuss shared responsibilities and goals.” A seafood industry event with 400 seafood professionals from 30 countries.
The Overall Project
I was excited about the opportunity because I was able to work with a couple old friends on the project. They would need videos to be played at the conference throughout the day delivering different messages when it was time to play them. Most of the videos would just loop after one minute with a simple intro and outro.
We started with an opening day video to be an accompaniment to Irish drummers as well as an Irish singer. After that, the lunch announcement video, break announcement video and sponsor rotator video. We would also need a background video to play while speakers were delivering their presentations. A first for me was to work on a video with subtitles for a gentleman who spoke Chinese. I had notes and timestamps for what was said, so that was a big help.
The Design
From the get go we decided we needed some sort of theme to maintain design continuity throughout all of the videos. Black and gold seemed to work nicely for the project. Classy, simple and elegant. All of the videos in the backgrounds were of locations throughout Ireland. We were given access to a site that has a lot of footage around Ireland, we just had to find footage that worked for us. Awesome footage to work with. We used the events tagline of ‘The Next 20’ as well as GOAL’s hashtag for the show #GOALConf17 in our frame throughout the videos to let people know that they could tweet or Instagram anything from the show to share with the world.
Feedback
A couple of small issues leading up to showtime. The LED screen was 2304×1024 instead of 1920×1080. My fault. In the early stages I was sent a video that was 1920×1080 so I figured that was the size we would use. I ignored the document that said 2304×1024. A quick enough fix so we were able to adjust before showtime. I was told everything went well for the show and from the photos I’ve seen, everything looked good too.
Final Thoughts
Ha! Who am I? Final thoughts! Not every video is for a landing page, a tv commercial, music video or documentary but a few important principals should be followed in videos like these. Maintain brand awareness and design continuity as well as informing your audience with simple well designed pieces of information to keep them up to date while hopefully making the experience a memorable and pleasant one. These videos are made to add to that positive experience.
