Floriculture Expo
I went to The International Floriculture Show in Chicago in June of 2018 to shoot a bunch of video for the show and it was a great experience. When I shoot video it’s always a plus when you get tons of colors and textures to capture, so there was plenty of that throughout the show floor as well as the education sessions.
The Show
The show’s overall goal is to bring buyers and sellers together so everything the show has to offer is built around that. An impressive setup! The education sessions are packed with experts explaining the ins and outs of todays flower markets. A whole day is set aside for education with experts from around the country. New products being launched in that calendar year are proudly displayed in a New Products display area. After all that you have the entire show floor dedicated to flower growers around the country showing what they have to offer. Flowers these vendors offer end up in grocery stores and flower shops around the country. My goal is to capture all of what is happening.
The Video
I was hired to shoot video at the show, but never actually produced any videos for the client so the video below is ‘unofficial’ and ‘unlisted’ on YouTube, so the only way you can see it is here on my site. I put together a version similar to this and sent it over to the marketing team and I was told they were busy and that they would get back to me with changes, but I never heard anything back. I think it’s a nice video so that’s why it is here.
The Trip
I hate flying into Chicago and will try to avoid O’Hare as much as I possibly can in the future. Just about every time I fly there there is a lightning storm, snow storm, rain storm or tornado on the day I arrive or the day I land. Sometimes both. This time my flight home was cancelled, so I had to fly into Manchester, New Hampshire and rent a car to drive back to Portland, Maine with just about zero sleep. That was about $170 for an hour and a half. Horrible! This years show is in Miami, so people who go won’t have to deal with Chicago’s weather. I do love seeing the Cloud Gate though. I try to see that whenever I can!
